About Sleep Expert

Sleep Expert puts you in charge of when your Mac sleeps — and when it refuses to. Everything lives in the menu bar. Click the moon and you are one click from keeping your Mac awake, sending it to sleep, or finding out what has been keeping it up. KEEP YOUR MAC AWAKE Long builds, downloads, renders, backups, a presentation on a projector — sometimes sleep is the enemy. Hold off screen sleep or full system sleep indefinitely, or set a timer and let Sleep Expert release it for you. A live countdown sits in the menu bar so you always know how long is left, and one click ends it early. SLEEP ON DEMAND Sleep now. Start the screen saver. Both are a single click away, without digging through menus or reaching for a keyboard shortcut you have to remember. FORCE SLEEP Sometimes a Mac simply will not go to sleep. An app, a download, a stray background process — anything can hold sleep off indefinitely, and you find out hours later from a warm laptop and a dead battery. Force Sleep puts your Mac to sleep after it has been idle for as long as you choose, whether or not something is trying to keep it awake. You get a countdown first, with the chance to stay awake, and Sleep Expert never interrupts while you are deliberately keeping the Mac up. SLEEP INSPECTOR Find out exactly what is going on. Sleep Inspector lists every app and background process currently holding sleep off, what kind of sleep each one is blocking, and how long it has been at it. No more guessing. QUIET BY DESIGN Sleep Expert has no Dock icon and no windows in your way. When another app is blocking sleep, a small dot appears on the menu bar icon — that is the whole notification system. It launches at login if you want it to, and stays out of the way if you do not. CLOSING THE LID Closing a MacBook’s lid triggers a separate, system-level sleep mechanism controlled by macOS and the hardware. Like other App Store apps, Sleep Expert cannot override it. Your Mac can remain awake with the lid closed only when it is operating in Apple’s supported closed-display mode with the required external equipment.
